Aspect: Southwest
First year produced: 2000
Alcohol content: 13,5%
Acidity: 5,8 ‰
Wine ageing potential: 5–7 years.
Maturing: 16 months in small barrels made from French oak
Tasting notes:
“Blau & Blau” from Blaufränkisch (Franconia) and Blauburgunder (Pinot Nero) grapes. It has a rather intense ruby red colour. Its aroma is heady and well-orchestrated, with herbaceous and forest floor notes. Its taste is dry, elegant, and rather full-bodied and balanced. It is paired with central European dishes. It is particularly pleasing when paired with loin of smoked pork and mostarda (sweet fruit pickle) of apples, kren and stewed vegetables.
This is a traditional recipe from Gorizia and Trieste and it expresses its ultimate affinity with this wine, exalting its characteristics.
By the 19th century banquets held by well-to-do families in Gorizia were washed down with Franconia del Collio, wine of the County.
Interesting fact: The photo of Truman the puppy with Sylvia was printed in a book titled “Boston Terriers” by authors Sergio Pella and Umberto Cuomo, published in 2006 by Edizioni Cinque.
