Merkki: Grattamacco
A wine produced from a vineyard at 100 m asl, where the soil is characterized by
calcareous and marl flysch mixed to clay. The temperate Mediterranean climate and
the frequent sea breezes help the organic cultivation of the vineyard. Vines are
trained to Cordone speronato and Guyot. Harvesting is done manually. The average
age of the vines is 20 years. Vinification 50 % in stainless steel vats and 50 % in
used barrique, where the wine ages with frequent batonnage of the lees. Bottle
refinement six months.
Appellation: Bolgheri Vermentino DOC
Composition: 100% vermentino
Alcohol: 14% vol.
Colour: straw yellow with quick reflections of green
Production: 10.000 bottles
The colder and wetter trend than usual this year has in no way tarnished the tough
character of this variety. On the contrary, the grapes have gained in vitality and
freshness. The last ten days of September were dry and sunny and allowed to
harvest the Vermentino, with its unique golden colour and full aromatic maturation.
Citrus and mineral notes characterize the olfactory impact, along with scents of
wildflowers. In the mouth we find the personal flavour of this wine, which goes well
with the cool vintage character and light creaminess donated by the long aging.
Goes well with all fish preparations, and, for its smoothness and aroma, particularly
with Tuscan antipasti, crostini and cold cuts. Also try with fricassee of veal or soft
cheese.
