Origin:
South Tyrol
Grapes:
Lagrein
Pinot Nero grows on the Mazzon, Pinzano, Gleno and Montagna hills in areas selected carefully for their micro-climate, which over the years have been shown to be ideal for the production of this great wine. The individual vineyards are situated at altitudes varying between 350 and 700 meters, including a great diversity of soils. In
fact, muddy terrain can be found just a few meters from completely different soil, such as sandy, chalky, and gravelly. Thanks to the density of planting, varying between 8,000 and 12,000 vines per hectare, the grape rendered is of the highest quality. The final internal selection of very low yield clones allows for a stable and
continuous development of quality over the years.
The wine making of these grapes takes place in open vats so that during fermentation the must comes into contact with the grape skins through frequent cap punch-down and with many pump-over.
Thanks to these techniques the colouring substances and the fragrances contained in the skins are extracted and pass into the wine. At the end of fermentation the wine goes from steel to barriques, where malolactic fermentation takes place over a period of 12 to 15 months. After bottling, the wine ages for about a year
in the bottles.
Color:
Pinot Nero Schweizer is a ruby red colour which varies from light to intense depending on the vintage.
Nose:
Its bouquet is seductive with complex aromas, such as ripe soft fruits and cherries, spicy notes of pepper and leather.
Taste:
Fragrances and sensations are also reflected on
the palate. In the mouth the wine thrills with its soft and encircling tannins, with elegance and subtlety, and for its structure and harmonious body which make it very long-lived.
Food pairing:
Pinot Nero Schweizer goes well splendidly with game such as pheasant and duck, to braised game, red meats and aged cheeses.
