We at Tarara Farm specialize in the cultivation of fresh oregano.

The variety of oregano that we grow in selected soils is that belonging to oregano heracleoticum.

It is a perennial, hairy, intensely aromatic species whose size varies between 40-70 cm.

It consists of woody stems at the base, more or less reddish green, erect-ascending, with white hairs. Leaves petiolate, lamina ovate, margin entire or faintly serrated, green above paler and hairy below. Flowers small, numerous, clustered in ovoid spikes, corolla white or rarely pinkish.

Grows well in our sunny Sicilian soil and its flowering period is between June-August.

Harvested in bundles in the summer, the essence is set out to dry, often wrapped in sheets of straw paper, in warm, dry and ventilated places, then the leaves and flowering tops, coarsely chopped, are used as a topping for pizzas, salads and other dishes.
