Sybille Kuntz Riesling Kabinett is a shining example of Mosel Kabinett. The fruit is tangy and fresh with apple and stone fruit character, but this wine is all about the minerality that shines with every bite.
After the first week of harvest, the harvest team is growing together and has developed a confident feeling for the quality and nature of the grapes. Now we start with the classification, the previous selection. All the Lieser Schlossberg, Rosenlay and Niederberg-Helden vineyard plots are combed for grapes that have already reached their ripening potential for the second quality category, namely Kabinett. All other grapes remain in the vineyard and mature further until the final harvest. For Kabinett, we also vinify grapes from the Pauls Valley in Lieser, a former Moselle side valley with steep slate slopes and old vines. The heat is collected here like in a parabolic mirror. The soil is 100% Devonian blue slate and provides particular mineral notes to the wines.
Sybille took over the property from her family in the early 1980s. She had opened a wine shop a few years earlier and realized that her parents' wine was poor compared to others in the region. She thought she could do better and she was right! Sybille now cultivates the 45-acre farm with her husband Markus following strict biodynamic principles. The wines have a complexity, freshness and modern appearance that places them among the best in the region.
