Notes The Coteaux Champenois is the still white wine produced in Champagne. Champagne house Henri Giraud produces this exceptional wine using only Chardonnay from the Grand Cru village of Ay, making it the first Aÿ Grand Cru Coteaux Champenois Blanc in history.
After the harvest, the grapes are fermented in new wooden barriques from the Argonne forest and the wine is aged in cask for 15 months in contact with the yeasts.
It is a complex wine, less austere than many Coteaux Champenois. The nose has hints of grapefruit, almond and white flowers. As it opens in the glass it reveals more exotic aromas of white peach, melon and apricot. The calcareous terroir of Aÿ is evident in the mineral-chalky note of the wine.
On the palate it is fresh and lively, with a delicate texture and good creaminess. Here too the mineral notes emerge that persist in the long finish.
One of the distinctive features of the Coteaux Champenois is their marked acidity, which is why the maison lets the wine refine in the bottle for years before being marketed.
