Podere Castellaccia, a 50 hectares estate, is located on the top of a hill in the area between Grosseto and Montiano, in the heart of Tuscany Maremma, and it has been owned and managed by the Pellegrini Family since 1936. The optimal location and the unique micro-climate of the vineyards and the olive groves allow to have high quality products.
Excellent wines are produced thanks to the low grapes production per hectare and thanks to the great care paid during the entire production process. The grape varieties grown in the vineyards are all typical and native grape varieties of this area and able to best express the enormous oenological potential of Tuscan Maremma.
The wines that Podere Castellaccia is currently producing are: Morellino di Scansano D.O.C.G. (“Abos”, “Etrurio” and “Vitazzaie”) and Morellino di Scansano D.O.C.G. Riserva “Castellaccia” which is aged, after 12 months, in oak barrels for twelve-thirteen months. Morellino di Scansano Riserva is produced only from the best fruit in outstanding vintages. The main grape varieties used for the production of Morellino di Scansano D.O.C.G. are: Sangiovese (85%), Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo and Malvasia nera.
Podere Castellaccia also produces Tuscan IGT white wine “Fonda del Grigio” (made with Trebbiano toscano, Malvasia toscana and Malvasia di Candia grapes) and Tuscan IGT rosé wine “Poggio Bistone”(made with Sangiovese and Canaiolo).
Podere Castellaccia can offer Grappa di Morellino di Scansano “Sinibalda” obtained from the distillation of its own Sangiovese grapes.
The company production also includes Extra Virgin Olive Oil, made with olive varieties which are typical of this area : Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo. The olive harvest is made by hand during the first decade of November and the olives are cold-pressed within 24 hours in order to preserve all their flavors and the organoleptic characteristics.
